See? One core problem is the beginning of the story. Where there is no problem, there is no story. So, if you want to create a story from your products or services, the first step is to decide on which problem you focus.
In the previous issue, I showed you the first step of creating a story from your products or services. One core problem begins the story. If you want to create a story from your products or services, you have to decide on which problem you focus in the process of delivering your products or services. Remember? Good. Let's move on to the today's topic.
For every problem you solved, there's a story to tell!
Think about it: How many problems did you solve to bring your products or services come true? For every problem you solved, there's a story to tell.
Suppose you are proud of the materials you use. If you are using very rare materials your competitors can't use, it's a good opening.
Remember what the beginning of the story is? Yes, the core problem. The kidnapping of Princess Peach by Bowser begins the adventure of Mario. In your case, you can focus on the difficulty of getting the materials you use. How can you start your story? For example, start like this:
In order to create the best products I had dreamt for 20 years, I had to get these special materials: (You explain each material’s use and why you need them one by one with a simple list.). But there are problems... These materials are really rare, extremely hard to get.
Then, you start explaining how hard it is to get these materials. Maybe, you have to go to special locations. You can continue like this:
Because of the inconvenience of transport, you can’t go there by airplanes, trains, buses, taxies, cars, even bicycles.
Actually, there is no “road” in this area!
You have to walk on unpaved hills over 30km with the 12kg equipment on your back… and endure 8 hours with -5°C coldness!
Other than special locations? You might need special access, or connections to get the materials you use. In that case, continue like this:
You can get these materials only in Kyoto, and even local people can’t get them freely. Because only those who are related to creating Nishijin brocade (西陣織) have the special access to buy the material. Yes, money is not enough here. How much money you may have, they don’t care. You may be one of the Goldman Sachs executives, Hollywood Stars, or K-Pop Idols.... still you are not eligible to buy these materials. In fact...
